Ambassador Gülsun Erkul graduated from International Relations Department at the Middle East Technical University in 1991 and also had a Master’s degree from the College of Europe. After joining foreign service in 1992, she has worked in the European Union, energy and consular departments in the Ministry and undertook different roles abroad in the Permanent Delegation of Türkiye to the EU, Consulate General in Aleppo, OECD Permanent Delegation and Turkish Embassy in Berlin.

Ambassador Erkul was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Latvia between 2018 and 2022. She was then a member of the Foreign Policy Advisory Board, Director-General in charge of energy, environment and transboundary water issues, and Director-General for Consular Services.

She commenced her role as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Hungary on 15 June 2026.

Ambassador Erkul is married with a son.
